Usefulness and services of the tree :
Features and characters of the individual
The hazelnut tree is a small, discreet but popular tree. It begins to bloom well before the end of winter: first it is covered with golden male flowers that sway in the wind, and then with tiny, tiny star-shaped flowers of a bright reddish pink. They become delicious hazelnuts. A shrub can produce up to 20 kg of fruit. Its foliage forms pretty little domes, soft green in spring and bright yellow in autumn. This individual is discreet in the middle of the Viaduct's Park. People in a hurry don't notice it. The children know him well. They rest in the soft shade on summer afternoons. They listen to the stories from the Ixelles' library while checking out the nuts until they are ripe.
